Club Xanadu: The success of the single "Runaway," which was released under the name "John Bongiovi," led to uncertainty about how to promote the band. A newspaper ad for their November 1983 show at Club Xanadu bills "Jon Bon Jovi," but adds "John Bongiovi" in parentheses.​
